Why We Don’t Just Hand Over Raw Footage, And Why We Charge for B-Roll
Every client asks us the same thing at the end of a project:
“Can we get all the raw footage too?”
Sounds like an easy request, right?
But here's the thing most people don’t realize, raw footage isn’t usable. Not yet.
What You’re Expecting vs. What Raw Footage Really Is
Most clients imagine “raw footage” as a big folder of clean, crisp clips ready to post or hand off to their own editor.
But the truth?
Raw footage looks flat, gray, dull, and frankly, kind of awful.
We shoot in something called LOG format, which preserves maximum detail and dynamic range. It gives us total control in the edit, so we can color, brighten, sharpen, and stylize your video to match your brand.
Unedited, this footage looks almost black and white. It’s not meant to be used as-is. It’s meant to be transformed.
Why We Don’t Send Raw LOG Files
They’re massive (we’re talking 50–100GB+)
They don’t represent the quality of our work
You’ll need a professional video editor just to make them usable
If someone shares that raw footage online, it reflects poorly on your brand and ours
So What Do You Get?
If you want more than just the final edit, we offer a graded B-roll package as an add-on.
That means:
You get nearly all of the footage we shot
It’s already been color graded and cleaned up
It’s in a ready-to-use format for future reels, ads, or social media posts
No extra work on your end. No weird-looking footage. No surprises.
Why We Charge for It
Because it takes time, expertise, and computing power to:
Go through hours of footage
Color grade it
Export it in a usable format
Organize and deliver it cleanly
We don’t charge to be difficult, we charge because you’re asking for more than what was scoped, and we want to give you something that’s actually valuable and usable.
Want footage you can actually use?
If you're planning ahead or need more content beyond the final edit, let's talk about adding a graded B-roll package to your project.
